Love Bite , Love Measure
Companionship starts from attention to detail
Is the blood glucose too high or too low? Diabetes suspected? There is no need to panic! Dogs and cats can continue to enjoy a happy life with regular home testing.Use a glucose meter designed for cats and dogs to become the guardian angel of their health!
It’s not just humans that can suffer from blood sugar. Dogs and cats need to pay attention to!
The symptoms of early-stage diabetes in dogs and cats are difficult to detect. If they become unresponsive to insulin and cells cannot make effective use of glucose, this increases the risk of diabetes. Complications may result without early intervention. Regular glucose monitoring will help the vet with their diagnosis and making adjustments to medication to keep pets in good shape.
★Why use the Glucose Monitoring System for Dogs and Cats★
A glucose meter for humans may result in blood glucose readings that are too high or too low for proper diagnosis and treatment. Use a glucose meter designed for greater peace of mind.
Observe how dogs and cats eat, drink, pee and poop!
Pet owners must pay attention to how their pets are eating and going to the toilet in order to catch the symptoms of diabetes early. Pets should be taken to the vet right away if something feels wrong. Don’t wait until complications such as cataracts, kidney failure, poor wound healing and cardiovascular disease appear to seek treatment!
We have exactly what you need to look after dogs and cats with diabetes
It’s natural to feel anxious if your pet is diagnosed with diabetes. Fear not! Have a pet glucose meter at home, follow the vet’s directions on making adjustments to the pet’s diet and take regularly blood glucose measurements to give you and your pet extra peace of mind.
Monitor blood glucose changes in dogs and cats with ease
If a pet has been diagnosed with diabetes, a blood glucose chart should be produced with a reading taken once every 2 to 3 hours for at least 12 hours. Tracking the pet’s blood glucose changes over time will help the vet with devising a treatment plan.

The goal is prevent any incidents of low blood glucose (blood glucose < 80 mg/dl) during the day and keep the reading within the ideal range for most of the day to avoid glycosuria. (glycosuria occurs when blood glucose > 200 mg/dl for dogs, and blood glucose > 250 ~ 300 mg/dl for cats)
Some pets may become stressed in unfamiliar environments resulting in higher blood glucose or changes in appetite. The blood glucose data may then be different from normal. Readings should be taken in a familiar setting at home to obtain the most accurate data on changes in blood glucose.

★★The actual blood glucose curve should be determined through consultations with the vet. The treatment plan for each pet will vary.
Keep dogs and cats healthy by training them to accept needle pricks for blood glucose monitoring
Diabetes will not impact on a pet’s quality of life if properly controlled. A pet’s blood glucose can be maintained in a steady state with the right treatment so they can continue to enjoy a happy life.

Understanding the numbers is the start to fighting the disease together
All the readings from the blood glucose meter contain information about the pet’s health. If they are too high or too low, immediate attention is required. An understanding of key glucose data can be combined with observations of pet behavior and energy levels to ensure proper care.
Interpreting the blood glucose readings for dogs and cats
Love and companionship are the key to long-term care
Dogs and cats with diabetes require long-term management so regular testing is the first step. In addition to blood glucose readings, owners should pay attention to their pet’s routine performance including mood, appetite, water intake and energy level. These observations must be combined with blood glucose readings to arrive at the most compassionate and appropriate decisions for their care.

Can pet dogs and cats get diabetes too?
Like humans, the cells inside cats and dogs need glucose for energy too. Glucose in the blood need insulin to “unlock” cells however, Insulin attaches itself to cells and releases a a signal when it is time for glucose to be absorbed. Cells receive the fuel that they need while also reducing the glucose content of the blood.

In Type I diabetes, damage or problems with the function of the pancreases prevents it from producing enough insulin. In Type II diabetes, cells become resistant to insulin and are unable to make effective use of them, leading to be diabetes. In both Type I and Type II diabetes, cells are unable to obtain the nutrients they need even though the blood contains large amounts of diabetes. This is because insulin is unable to transport glucose from the blood into the cells that need them.

Dogs usually suffer from Type I diabetes. It is more common among dogs that are overweight, in heat, or pregnant. For cats, Type II diabetes is more common. Cats and dogs over seven years’ old should see a vet once every six months for routine checks including blood work, urine analysis, and physical exam (liver/kidney/pancreas).
How important is a home pet glucose monitoring system?
A single blood glucose measurement taken at the vet may not be sufficient for a diagnosis of diabetes. When pets feel stresses, they might experience a temporary jump in blood glucose referred to as Stress Hyperglycemia.

The owner and vet must therefore work closely together when treating pets for diabetes. A blood glucose meter designed for pet use can be used to take blood samples for the capillaries in their ears or paw pads. Regular monitoring will help with early diagnosis of diabetes in pets and the establishment of an ideal insulin dose. It will also help avoid complications such as low blood glucose, uncontrolled diabetes, and Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Body weight, water intake, and appetite should be regularly assessed and recorded so treatment goals such as restoration of normal blood glucose levels, prevention or control of weight boss, and prevention or reduction in thirst/increased urination can be achieved.
Symptoms of dogs and cats with diabetes?
In Type I and Type II diabetes, the cells in the body are unable to obtain energy from the blood. To get the energy it needs, the body will resort to breaking down fats and proteins for energy instead. A common symptom of diabetes is therefore while appetite remains good, there is weight loss, compensatory thirst, increased increase urination, cloudy eyes (e.g. cataracts, specially in dogs), chronic or repeated infections (including skin and urinary tract infections), abnormal gait or posture, ankles in contact or almost in contact with the ground (cats). Early diagnosis and treatment will reduce the risk of long-term complications from diabetes.
